The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Evansville man in connection with a home invasion robbery that occurred on February 20 in western Vanderburgh County.

An elderly woman reported that she was followed into her home by an intruder who displayed a knife and demanded money. The suspect, Minh Quang Ton, reached into her purse, removed her wallet containing cash, and fled the scene. With the assistance of Flock technology, detectives were able to identify and locate Ton. On March 2, he was arrested on felony burglary and robbery charges.

On February 20, the victim called 911 and reported that she had just been robbed by a male wearing a dark hoodie who displayed a knife and took her wallet. The wallet was later recovered outside her residence and was found to be missing cash and an item of jewelry. The victim provided a description of the suspect and a vehicle she had observed parked on the street near her home prior to the robbery. The vehicle was no longer in the area when deputies arrived.

Deputies and detectives canvassed the neighborhood and located security camera footage showing an individual walking along the roadway, as well as a vehicle matching the victim’s description. During the investigation, the individual seen walking was identified and ruled out as a suspect. Using the video footage, detectives were able to determine the make and model of the vehicle parked on the roadway.

Believing the victim had been followed home, detectives reconstructed her movements prior to the robbery. Utilizing the Flock camera system, detectives tracked the victim’s vehicle and identified the suspect vehicle following approximately two seconds behind her at an intersection near Walmart West. The victim confirmed she had been at that location just prior to returning home.

Walmart security footage showed the suspect vehicle following the victim into the parking lot, remaining there while she went inside, and then following her again as she left. Flock camera footage provided the vehicle’s license plate number, which allowed detectives to identify Ton as a suspect. Flock was later used to locate Ton in real time driving in northern Vanderburgh County.

Detectives located the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot of a local golf course clubhouse. Ton was located inside, where he reportedly works in the restaurant kitchen. He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office Operations Center for questioning. His vehicle was towed to the Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Garage while detectives obtained a search warrant.

During an interview, Ton confessed to robbing the victim. He denied using a knife during the robbery but admitted to frequently carrying one. Ton told detectives he began following the victim after seeing her at Bally’s Casino. He did not provide a specific motive for the robbery.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of several knives, as well as property identified as stolen during multiple recent vehicle break-ins on the southeast side of Vanderburgh County. Flock cameras show Ton traveling throughout Vanderburgh County in recent days. Ton stated that he also works as a DoorDash driver; however, detectives expect additional Flock data to place him in close proximity to the thefts. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are anticipated.

Ton was arrested on burglary and robbery charges and is currently incarcerated at the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
