At 3:06 PM on February 1, 2020 Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in northern Vanderburgh County along North Green River Road near Boonville-New Harmony Road for a possible burglary in progress. The dispatch report indicated that the homeowner arrived home to find an unknown person inside of the residence. The homeowner, who was legally carrying a firearm at the time, confronted the suspect and fired a single round from a handgun before chasing the intruder out of the home.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area within minutes of being called, but the suspect fled the immediate vicinity on foot. Sheriff’s deputies searched the area along with several officers from the Evansville Police Department who mutually responded to assist. The suspect could not be located at the time and the investigation is ongoing. The suspect, who was concealing their head at the time of the incident, was described as a person with slender build, wearing a black hoodie, and blue jeans.
