Deputies Arrest Suspect on Attempted Murder and Multiple Charges

Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Braxton A. Morris following a domestic incident that occurred on January 30, 2025, at approximately 10:00 PM. Deputies were dispatched to a residence on Char Mar Ln. in response to a report of domestic battery in progress.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that the suspect had physically assaulted the victim, attempted to strangle her, and threatened to kill her. During the altercation, Morris allegedly retrieved a crossbow, loaded it, and fired an arrow at the victim, which became lodged in a staircase railing. He then retrieved a firearm, pointed it at the victim and later discharged it inside the residence.

The victim was able to escape with the help of a third party and contacted 911. Due to concerns that the suspect might harm himself, deputies attempted multiple times to contact him by phone and PA announcements but were unsuccessful. With assistance from the Evansville Police Department, deputies later entered the residence and deployed an indoor drone, which located Morris unresponsive on a couch. Deputies then took him into custody without further incident.

The victim sustained multiple injuries, including a broken wrist and a head injury, and was transported to Deaconess Midtown Hospital for treatment. A subsequent search of the residence, authorized by a judicial search warrant, resulted in the recovery of multiple firearms, a crossbow, spent shell casings, and other evidence corroborating the victim’s account.

Morris was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail, where he was booked on the following charges:
