SUBJECT: Deputies work Crash on US41 involving Henderson Theft Suspect
RELEASE NUMBER: 2022-NR-0822
CONTACT: Lieutenant Matt Corn
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On 8-22-2022, at approximately 0830 hours, deputies were dispatched to US 41 near I69 for a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, deputies located a black 2013 Chrysler Town and County minivan that had crashed into a guard rail and was blocking North bound US 41 at I69. The vehicle sustained extensive front end damage deploying the vehicles air bags. The driver sustained minor scraps and abrasions from the crash but did not require medical attention.

While on scene, deputies were advised the driver of the vehicle was the suspect in a recent shoplifting that occurred at 2709 US Hwy 41 N in Henderson, KY. Deputies were told a witness to the shoplifting followed the suspect from the gas station and possibly cut him off while he was North on US 41 causing the crash. The vehicles did not make contact during the crash, however, and the witness was gone prior to the arrival of deputies and could not provide a statement. The crash investigation is on-going at this time.

Deputies contacted the Henderson Police Department and they also responded to the scene to conduct an investigation for the shoplifting that occurred. The Henderson Police Department indicated they would be filing charges on the suspect at a later time. Vanderburgh County Deputies determined the driver involved in the crash had a suspended driver’s license out of Kentucky. The driver was cited for driving on a suspended license (infraction) and released on scene.
