Alcohol a Factor in Early Morning Crash

DATE: Friday, November 11, 2016
SUBJECT: Alcohol a Factor in Early Morning Crash
RELEASE NUMBER: 2016-NR-087
CONTACT: Lt. Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

On Friday, November 11, 2016 at approximately 3:16am the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to North Posey County Line Road in reference to a motor vehicle crash with injuries.

The initial 911 caller stated that a vehicle drove through their yard and struck parked vehicles. The driver of the black 2016 Dodge Ram pick-up truck was then able to walk to the nearby home, where the residents then requested an ambulance for him.

Evidence at the scene indicated the driver of the truck had been north bound on North Posey County Line Road near Connie Jo Court before leaving roadway and striking a tree and colliding with a white 1999 Dodge Ram and a 2017 box trailer that were parked in the driveway of 847 North Posey County Line Road. The force of the collision pushed the truck and trailer into a nearby tree. The 2016 Dodge Ram then continued north before striking another tree and then coming to rest.

The driver was transported by AMR ambulance to St.Mary’s Hospital for treatment of non-life threatining injuries. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

DRIVER:

Jesse Ray Hertel, 23, of Posey County.
