Darmstadt Crash Leaves One Dead

DATE: Wednesday July 14, 2017
SUBJECT: Darmstadt Crash Leaves One Dead
RELEASE NUMBER: 2017-NR-049
CONTACT: Sgt. Mark Rasure
AUTHORITY: Sheriff David Wedding

At 15:15 on 07/14/2017 the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 13000 block of Darmstadt Road regarding the report of a motor vehicle collision in the area. Upon deputies’ arrival, emergency medical personnel from the Scott Township Fire Department were tending to two patients. The driver of a red 2014 Ford Edge was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of a black 2017 Toyota Corolla was immediately transported to a local hospital by ambulance for what appears to be life-threatening injuries.

The investigation by on-scene deputies determined that the red Ford Edge was traveling southbound on Darmstadt Road when a black Toyota Corolla that was traveling northbound completely crossed the center line before striking the sport utility vehicle head on. Witnesses reported that just prior to the crash the Corolla was observed passing several vehicles in a posted no passing zone. Deputies confirmed with emergency medical personnel that the injured driver of the Corolla was not wearing a seatbelt at the time; whereas the deceased driver of the Ford Edge was properly wearing the vehicle’s safety restraint. During the follow-up investigation at the hospital deputies learned that alcohol appears to have played a role during the collision. The crash will remain under investigation pending toxicology reports on the operators.

Driver one, Justin Declue 35, Evansville
