RELEASE NUMBER: 2019-NR-027
CONTACT: Major Noah Robinson
AUTHORITY: Sheriff David Wedding
An Evansville man previously being sought for fleeing from a Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office deputy is in jail in Henderson, Kentucky after a failed second attempt to elude law enforcement with a vehicle.
On Thursday, July 04, 2019 at approximately 1:29 AM a sheriff’s deputy was checking the parking lot of the west side Walmart at 335 S Red Bank Road. The deputy recognized a vehicle that had previously eluded him by fleeing over the Ohio River bridge into Henderson on June 29, 2019. The deputy approached the vehicle and then recognized the driver, Mr. Kevin Mobley, as the suspect from the previous pursuit. Before Mr. Mobley could be taken into custody, he placed the vehicle into reverse and rammed the parked Sheriff’s Office cruiser.
Mr. Mobley then fled the scene of the crash, driving east on the Lloyd Expressway with the Sheriff’s Office and Evansville Police Department in pursuit. When Mr. Mobley took the exit onto southbound US 41 a deputy was waiting with a set of stop sticks. One of the tires was struck and deflated. Just prior to reaching the Kentucky state line, a second deputy successfully deployed stop sticks and deflated all four tires. A Sheriff’s Office supervisor ordered deputies to discontinue the pursuit shortly after Mr. Mobley entered Kentucky. The Henderson Police Department and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office took over the pursuit. Mr. Mobley was taken into custody in Henderson after his vehicle became disabled as a result of the tire deflation. Mr. Mobley is currently lodged in the Henderson County Jail awaiting local charges.
Extradition will later be sought after the Sheriff’s Office applies for an arrest warrant on charges of Resisting Law Enforcement as a Level 6 Felony, Criminal Recklessness as a Level 6 Felony, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving on a Suspended License.
