SUBJECT: Sheriff’s Office Arrests Teen for Threatening School Massacre
RELEASE NUMBER: 2021-NR-1210
CONTACT: Lt. Doug Daza
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Dave Wedding

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has placed a juvenile into secure detention following an investigation into a threat of violence made to students within North Middle School.  The threat was made through Apple AirDrop, a file-sharing program.  A number of North Middle School students were recipients of the AirDrop.  A student notified school officials who in turn, notified Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s deputies who are assigned full-time to the North High/ Junior High Complex. An analysis of the AirDrop files eventually led to the identification of the sender.  A juvenile  male was interviewed and confessed to sending the threat.  During the interview the juvenile stated that he was copying something that he had seen on social media, but claimed to have no intention to harm anyone. The juvenile was charged with four counts of Intimidation as a Level 6 Felony and placed in detention at the Youth Care Center. Sheriff Dave Wedding said, “I take any threat against our schools and students very seriously.  I consider these threats to be extremely dangerous and the Sheriff’s Office will vigorously investigate these incidents.  We will identify these perpetrators and seek the highest level of prosecution.  We will not compromise on the safety of our children.”
