SUBJECT: Vanderburgh County Jail Hosts Hands-Only CPR and AED Training with Red Cross and University of Evansville
RELEASE NUMBER: 2025-NR-1009
CONTACT: Captain David Guetling
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Noah Robinson
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office recently partnered with the American Red Cross and the University of Evansville’s Dunigan Family School of Nursing to provide “Hands-Only” CPR instruction and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) familiarization to individuals incarcerated in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
This marks the fourth collaborative training event between the Sheriff’s Office and the American Red Cross in recent years, and the first to include participation from the University of Evansville. Each event has been met with overwhelmingly positive feedback from both students and participants.
“Some incarcerated individuals are more vulnerable to medical emergencies due to factors such as substance abuse,” said Sheriff Noah Robinson. “Providing this training not only equips them with valuable lifesaving skills but also helps build confidence and a sense of responsibility that can extend beyond incarceration.”
Four classes were conducted throughout the day, with a total of 60 participants learning and demonstrating the “Hands-Only” CPR technique. This volunteer-led initiative reflects the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, education, and rehabilitation.
