The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an Evansville man in connection with an armed robbery and stabbing of a taxi driver and her ride-along passenger.  John Vernon Jackson Jr. was arrested this morning following an investigation into an incident that occurred just before midnight yesterday on Chapel Court in Vanderburgh County.  A companion of Jackson, Lewis Anthony Yates, was also arrested on an outstanding felony warrant and two counts of resisting law enforcement.
Both Jackson and Yates were interviewed by investigators.  Jackson was cooperative and gave a statement implicating himself in the robbery and stabbing.  Both Jackson and Yates were apprehended with the assistance of a police canine.  Evidence recovered included Jackson’s wallet and identification which were found in the taxi.  Both victims were able to identify Jackson as their attacker.  Jackson stated he committed the robbery because he needed money.  The investigation into Yates’ involvement is ongoing.
Earlier today, both victims had been taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. One had been treated and released and the other admitted for observation.
Jackson and Yates were transported to the Vanderburgh County Detention Center.  Jackson will be held without bond and Yates’ bond is currently $2,200.00 cash.
