July 19th Sobriety Checkpoint Results

The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and the Evansville Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at N. Fulton Ave and W. Florida Street. The checkpoint ran from 11:30pm to 02:30am.

At 12:30am a black scooter entered the checkpoint. The driver, Mr. Mark Douglas, appeared intoxicated and was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated.

At 12:45am a white Ford pickup truck approached the checkpoint area. The vehicle accelerated and nearly struck a deputy who was standing in the street motioning for the vehicle to enter the checkpoint. The driver, Mr. Nicholas Hurse, appeared intoxicated and was in possession of marijuana and a large amount of cash. The passenger, Ms. Desiree Houchin, was in possession of a glass methamphetamine smoking pipe. Both Mr. Hurse and Ms. Houchin were arrested.

At 1:45am a red Dodge truck entered the checkpoint. The driver, Mr. Daniel Heath, was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

Additionally, a total of three (3) Driving on a Suspended License citations were issued along with two Open Container citations. A total of four (4) custodial arrests were made as a result of the checkpoint.

Nicholas Jerome Hurse (pictured above), 33, of Evansville. Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated as a Class A Misdemeanor with Test Refusal, Dealing Marijuana as a Class A Misdemeanor, Dealing Paraphernalia as a Class A Misdemeanor, Driving while License Suspended as a Class A Misdemeanor

Desiree Houchin (pictured above), 37, of Evansville. Possession of Methamphetamine as a Level 6 Felony, Possession of Paraphernalia as a Class A Misdemeanor.

Mark Edward Douglas (pictured above), 33, of Evansville. Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated as a Class C Misdemeanor.

Daniel Heath Lester (not pictured), 30, of Madisonville, KY. Failure to Appear on charges of Check Deception as a Class A Misdemeanor.
