The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has arrested the driver of a pick-up truck who killed a pedestrian on W. Boonville New Harmony Road last September. Mr. Coleman Matthew Sheridan was taken into custody this afternoon on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated causing Death as a Level 5 Felony.

Mr. Sheridan had been operating a pick-up truck on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at approximately 5:00am on W. Boonville New Harmony Road when he struck and killed a jogger, Ms. Janet Sue Gries. Mr. Sheridan had been traveling east and Ms. Gries had been jogging west on W. Boonville New Harmony Road near Gilles Lane prior to the collision. Mr. Sheridan reported that he had looked down prior to the collision after dropping a can of tobacco.

After the crash, Mr. Sheridan denied having consumed any intoxicating substances, but consented to testing pursuant to state law. Test results from the Indiana State Department of Toxicology indicated Mr. Sheridan was under the influence of marijuana at the time of the crash.

Mr. Sheridan is being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail with a $5,000.00 bond.
