Physical Standards

Confinement Officer candidates will be required to successfully complete a cardiovascular capacity test consisting of a treadmill in a graduated sequence. Once the testing protocol begins, the treadmill’s speed is set to a consistent speed of 3.3 miles per hour. Each minute, the incline of the treadmill will increase by 1%. The test will proceed for a total of 10 minutes. If at any time the candidate cannot safely continue for any reason at the discretion of the evaluator, the test is terminated. The test can also be terminated at any time by the candidate if they do not wish to continue.

Job positional requirements – the ability to get into/out of positions without difficulty: full squat, half kneeling (no more than one hand pushing up from leg to stand), tall kneeling (no more than one hand pushing up from leg to stand), supine to standing using only one arm, prone push up to stand, 30 second ¾ mini squat hold.

Physical ability to climb stairs at level 6 x 100 steps, lift 100 lbs floor to waist, and unilateral pull 200 lbs for 20′ with lowest handle position.

A screen of the candidate’s range of motion (shoulders and knees), muscle strength, coordination, heart rate, and blood pressure are done to assess the candidate’s appropriateness for testing prior to starting the test. You will not be able to advance to your test if your blood pressure is in excess of 180/100, your resting heart rate is in excess of 110 beats per minute, muscle strength or your range of motion is not within functional limits to safely complete the test.
